![]() Quite a lot of the time I wish I could hide the boss health bars in Dark Souls, because when you get them down to that final tick it is so very tempting to go for that one extra blow and overextend, sometimes dying because of it. No health bar tells you nothing of the state the boss has reached, and means it goes from one state - alive - to another - dead, there's no subtlety. Just wacking a boss a hundred times without knowing the effect I'm having in very long fights for me is tedious. Nothing breaks immersion more for me than not knowing whether I'm damaging a boss, how close I've got it to dead, how much damage the hits are making. Well i disagree, boss health is not good imo, it breaks inmersion, it makes pointless visual clues and any sort of thought.įor example, monster hunter is an awesome series, if the monster had hp bars it would be awful and would totally destroy the game My question is, anyone else feel the same way about Hollow Knight, as in they really hated it, but ploughed on and and eventually it just clicked and started being fun? I've been playing a lot of The Surge (another Souls inspired game) recently, an equally tough game, but I found The Surge totally ADDICTIVE, and could not put it down. And NO health bar for bosses is just plain wrong, especially when some of the boss fights last what seem like hours, with endless cycle after cycle of AI that goes on forever!! My main gripes are the annoying AI, dead ends followed by endless back tracking past the annoying AI again. Originally posted by catnipdave:Hollow Knight is tough, but for me not in a fun way. It probably won't happen with HK (because I am garbage with the controls, which wasn't really the case with DS) but you never know. Six months later I picked it up again (becaues DS isn't a game that you can avoid hearing about) and after watching a few youtube vids to get a better idea of the game and ended up loving it, and it is still easily my favourite game, and the most hours I've put into a game. I really disliked DS the first time I playe it, got rid. The game may still not be for you as there will be a lot of backtracking all the time as it is a hallmark of the genre, but you MAY get sucked in further on depending on where you currently are. By the time I finished it with 100% (took me 39hrs) it had become my favorite metroidvania and possibly my GotY. Without really noticing, after I got the cloak, I started liking the game quite a bit and by the time I made it to the City of Tears I was absolutely hooked. I got slightly more into it the more I played and fighting Hornet made me more curious for the game. I got past the first area's real boss and entered the second. However since it was a very uneventful weekend I decided to keep going. The attacks were very simplistic and so were the enemies (nothing like Salt and Sanctuary). I can tell you that when I started the game I didn't see it as anything special.
